Overview:
Another tremendous season for the SuperValu West Cork Schoolboys League has finally come to an end. Eight different clubs won the Nine trophies on offer this term demonstrating the abundance of talent throughout the West Cork region.

SuperValu WCSL Leagues & Play Offs
Clonakilty AFC won a dramatic WCSL under-12 league after topping a second play-off group to decide the destination of the 2007-08 title. Clon, Skibbereen, Bunratty and Leeside qualified for the play-offs having finished first and second in their respective under-12 league groups. Skibb, Bunratty and Clon each finished level on 6 points in the play-offs so a second round of round-robin fixtures was necessary between the three clubs to decide the Champions. Clonakilty AFC eventually claimed the title after holding Skibbereen to a 3-3 draw in the final game.

Lyre Rovers and Togher Celtic finished joint-top of the SuperValu under-14 play-off group ahead of Skibbereen and Bunratty United. Rovers and Celtic met in a winner-take-all decider in Ballyvackey in which Lyre eventually triumphed 4-1 to bring the title to Knockskeagh.

Riverside Athletic retained the SuperValu under-16 league title after coming from 3-0 down to defeat Bunratty United 4-3 in the final play-off match of the season. Athletic topped the final play-off group with Togher second, Bunratty third and Skibbereen fourth.

SuperValu WCSL Shields
Durrus lifted the final trophy of the season by defeating a gallant Lyre Rovers 3-1 in the SuperValu under-12 Shield final in Lisheens, Kealkil. Drinagh Rangers won the SuperValu under-14 Shield in dramatic fashion following a penalty shoot-out victory over Bay Rovers. An absolutely absorbing final ended 1-1 after extra time. Rangers held their nerve and eventually lifted the trophy after a nerve-tingling penalty shoot-out.

Lyre Rovers won their second Schoolboys trophy in as many days following a hard fought 3-1 victory over Skibbereen in the final of the SuperValu under-16 Shield. Sean Mannix, Thomas Clancy and a John Leahy penalty were Rovers scorers with Mark Collins replying for Skibbereen.

SuperValu WCSL Cups
Bunratty United lifted the SuperValu under-12 Cup trophy following a one-sided 5-0 cup final victory over a gallant Bay Rovers back in April in Mullough. A hat-trick from SuperValu man of the match Conor O'Driscoll along with further efforts from Fionn Hurley and Toby Snashell earned the Schull side a deserved victory.

Skibbereen captured the SuperValu under-14 Cup by defeating Lyre Rovers 2-0 in a cracking final in Mullough. Goals from Jason Minihane and a Dan MacEoin penalty won the cup for Skibb.


A solitary strike from Declan Coughlan won Togher Celtic the West Cork Schoolboys under-16 Cup in Mullough. Celtic held on to an early 1-0 lead to eventually defeat Skibbereen in an entertaining under-16 cup final.

2007 / 2008 SuperValu West Cork Schoolboys League ROLL OF HONOUR
